One in seven women and one in 20 men feel 'very’ to ‘extremely’ fatigued after Zoom calls - so why are we still doing them?I’m sitting on my sofa. It’s 2.30pm and I’m on my fifth Zoom of the day. One of my male colleagues, who I don’t like for a myriad of reasons, is vaping. I wonder if I can risk a trip to the loo whilst yet another colleague wangs on about their weekend. It’s impossible to maintain focus for long periods of time.
Zooms are definitely not good for our mental health. A recent study conducted by Stanford University revealed that when someone’s face is close to ours in real life, our brains interpret it as an intense situation that is either going to lead to mating or conflict. So we are literally prepared to have sex or to fight this person. This results in us being in “a hyper-aroused state…” apparently.
2. When the important person i.e. the boss arrives suddenly everyone will switch their camera on – if the important person doesn’t show up then nobody will bother. 5. One person is always on mute when they start speaking, and then everyone has to shout at them – “YOU’RE ON MUTE!” .
