Xscape Cineworld in Castleford set to close its doors in the New Year
Cineworld Castleford - homed inside the colossal Xscape entertainment complex just off the M62 - has been there since the inception of the project more than 20 years ago.
Cineworld Castleford posted on Facebook: "After years of providing movie lovers with a place to feel more, we regret to inform you that, following the landlord's decision to reject our proposals, we will be closing January 19th 2025. "Thank you to all of you movie-loving customers for choosing us over the years. We hope you continue to enjoy watching movies at one of our nearby cinemas of Wakefield or Leeds."
Shocked film fans were later sent an email pointing them to their nearest cinema in Barnsley, Leeds or Wakefield. It follows a testing four-and-a-half-years for cinema bosses and staff following the coronavirus Covid-19 pandemic in March 2020.Javier Sotomayor, president of Cineworld International, said the move "protects thousands of jobs across the UK" and "provides us with the financial stability to continue investing".
