EXCLUSIVE: John Swinney is being urged to end an exclusivity agreement between government quango Scottish Enterprise and the Yorkshire theme park operator.

Flamingo Land's exclusive rights to land on the banks of Loch Lomond should end if its second bid for a controversial mega-resort fails, John Swinney has been urged.

Now, campaigning Green MSP Ross Greer has written to the First Minister calling on him to scrap the arrangement should the firm's latest bid be rejected next month. Critics claim the 46-acre site would be a blight on the iconic landscape and overwhelm local infrastructure. In his letter to Swinney, Greer wrote: “I am writing to you today to ask that you instruct Scottish Enterprise not to renew their agreement with Flamingo Land in the event that their current application is rejected on September 16.The Greens politician told the Record: “For far too long residents in Balloch have lived with the constant threat of Flamingo Land hanging over their community.

Jim Paterson, Development Director for Lomond Banks, said: “Our exclusivity agreement with Scottish Enterprise follows on from a stringent, public tender process where our proposals for West Riverside were deemed to be the most feasible to bring to fruition and closely met the objectives and ambitions for the area in the Local Development Plan.
