NRL: Penrith coach Ivan Cleary has cautioned Jarome Luai on accepting a million dollar offer from a rival club as the star Panther weighs up his playing future.
Dragons coach Shane Flanagan has declared his side will play finals next year and revealed his son Kyle will get first crack at five-eighth.
The premiership-winning coach revealed negotiations are ongoing to extend Jaydn Su’a, who is one of several players Flanagan wants to see return to the Origin arena in 2024. Zac Lomax, Jayden Su’a, Blake Lawrie and Ben Murdoch-Masila and Francis Molo weren’t due back until mid-November but they wanted to start with the rookies on Flanagan’s first day.
The only players the Dragons have been able to sign since Flanagan was appointed in June are his son Kyle and Hame Sele .“We want to make sure we get quality players at our club, and some quality ones come off in 2025, but because of the Dolphins and different things that happened, there’s not a lot of players on the market.”
“Sloan is a good player and only young but obviously with injury and form, I need someone else who can do that job,” Flanagan said. Flanagan said he was unaware of talk that backrower Jayden Su’a is keen on a move home to Queensland, and said the club is currently trying to re-sign him.“He’s comfortable, he’s a big part of the team, he’s an experienced player and I think I can get more out of him, he’s been injured a bit.”The club’s incumbent No. 6 Junior Amone has been stood down as he awaits sentencing after being found guilty of a string of assault charges.
“We don’t know what’s going to happen with Junior so we just need to wait and see. We’ve got some good young kids, not ready for first grade but they can do some training with us and we’ll see how they go.” “So coming in here he won’t be under pressure, he’s just got to do his job here because we’ve got Benny Hunt.“There could be some external pressure that I can’t control but he’ll be under no pressure with me and I know I can get the best out of him.
“We’re a bit short in the halves with the Junior Amone stuff and that’s probably Zac thinking out loud that he’ll do anything for the club and if he needs to play five-eighth he’ll play five-eighth, but I don’t see that happening.”Ben Hunt was the only Dragons player to get picked in State of Origin this year, but he’s not the only player in Flanagan’s squad with representative experience.
“Jack Bird is capable of it, he’ll play in the centres a bit, edge backrower, he’s been moved around too much. I’ve coached Birdy since he was a kid and for years at the Sharks so I know what I can get out of him, so he’ll play a lot better next year and be more consistent so he’ll be a chance. “They’ve got some go about them and they’ll be a heap better for it having had some experience this year,” he said.
“But he’s injured now, so unfortunately everything I had planned for him in November and December I had to put on hold. The disease is often caused by an immune system malfunction, causing inflammation and ulcers on the bowel and digestive tract.
