Lynn Graham (35) has been paying around £500 per month on her mortgage for her North William Street residence despite last living there in October 2019
A property owner forced out of her Perth flat four years ago after it was damaged by a collapsing hotel next door is pleading for the derelict building to be knocked down so she can finally return home.
Lynn paid £85,000 for her one-bedroom maisonette but on the same night she signed the deeds in July 2016, a fire ravaged the adjoining derelict White Horse Inn building. “My mortgage keeps going up because I can’t get a fixed term mortgage because of the situation. It has more than doubled now. It is a variable rate and no one will touch it.A report on the property damage was conducted by civil and structural engineers, Allen Gordon LLP.All the owners’ insurance companies chipped in to repair the gable end of the building and rebuild the chimney - at a cost of nearly £70,000.
A spokesperson for Direct Line said: “We were advised in 2022 that the public house adjacent to Ms Graham’s property had been demolished following its collapse. Kim Finlayson, who has owned flats in the building, said the council and insurance companies have been “incredibly supportive throughout” but agrees that the hotel should be knocked down.
The resident echoes Kim’s sentiments that the council were “extremely helpful” and “sympathetic” to their situation.
