Many Chinese keyboard apps, some from major handset manufacturers, can leak keystrokes to determined snoopers, leaving perhaps three quarters of a billion people at risk according to research from the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab. explain, “There is no way to fit the tens of thousands of Chinese characters that exist onto a single keyboard.”
According to Citizen Lab, Baidu’s Pinyin app uses weak encryption so users’ keystrokes are vulnerable to interception by an eavesdropper who can therefore read all input. Apps from Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, Honor and iFlytek use crypto that has already been compromised by a working exploit that allows active and passive eavesdroppers to intercept keystrokes. Baidu’s Pinyin app for Windows has the same problem.

Microsoft Fixes Security Flaws, Another Hole Under AttackMicrosoft has fixed 149 security flaws in its products, but another vulnerability in Windows is being actively exploited. The vulnerability, known as a proxy driver spoofing vulnerability, was reported by Christopher Budd of Sophos. It allows an innocent-looking executable to contain a backdoor that intercepts network traffic on infected Windows machines. The backdoor was bundled with marketing/spam software designed to control phones and act as online bots. Microsoft has revoked the software's certification and assigned the issue CVE-2024-26234.
