An Aer Lingus flight scheduled to land in Leeds was diverted to Edinburgh this morning due to heavy fog across the UK.
A flight has been forced to divert 200 miles to Edinburgh amid foggy conditions across the UK. The Aer Lingus aircraft was due to land in Leeds this morning after leaving Dublin at 7am. But instead, the EI3390 flight was forced to divert to the capital. According to Flight Radar, the aircraft landed in Edinburgh half an hour earlier at 8.15am. Our sister title, Edinburgh Live, reports that the diversion was put in place due to heavy fog.
It comes after flights at Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester were cancelled to the weather on Friday. Almost all scheduled departures were severely delayed. Fog has shrouded much of the country over the past few days. In some areas, thick fog patches could reduce visibility down to just 100 metres overnight and into Saturday, the Met Office said. Met Office meteorologist Liam Eslick said: “It’s that time of year when people are travelling around the country a lot and there are a lot of people on the roads. There is a lot of fog covering much of England, mainly the South East and central England, but the rest of the country is seeing quite a bit of thick fog too. It will be pretty murky on Saturday morning and there will still be fog patches that will take a little longer to clear.” Don't miss the latest news from around Scotland and beyond - Sign up to our daily newsletter here
