A British Airways Boeing 777-200ER from London Gatwick to Vancouver aborted its takeoff.
A number of flights at Gatwick Airport have been cancelled or diverted following an incident on the runway, causing disruption for thousands of airline passengers.
"We must be knocking on for an hour now. The plane has now been towed from the runway and our engines are back up and running."It appears it’s a BA flight bound for Vancouver which aborted its take off."Travel expert, Simon Calder, estimates that around 4000 passengers will be affected by the runway closure at Gatwick.
"...we've had planes ending up in Heathrow, in Luton, in Stansted, in Bournemouth...and at this time of year there is very little slack in the system. Those planes were supposed to be going to all sorts of other places. "As the day goes on, with all the other problems we've got in Europe - really stormy weather, long delays from traffic control - it's looking like a pretty bleak start to the weekend."Credit: Justene Miller
