Police say the man had authored 'several manifestos' before barricading himself in a Jacksonville shop and killing three black people.
A fatal shooting at a Florida store is being investigated as a racially motivated hate crime.
Three people were killed in a Jacksonville Dollar General store on Saturday local time, when a man in his 20s barricaded himself in the shop.The Federal Bureau of Investigation told reporters it would be pursuing the shooting as a hate crime. All victims were black and it was suspected the shooter was racially motivated, according to Jacksonville sheriff TK Waters.Sheriff Waters said authorities believed the shooter acted alone, and before the shooting had authored "several manifestos", detailing his hatred for black people.Mayor Donna Deegan said the shooting was "unacceptable".Edward Waters University students were being kept in their dorms, the school said in a statement.
The shooting happened five years to the day after a gunman opened fire during a video game tournament in Jacksonville, killing two people before fatally shooting himself.
