Kennedy is polling at around 3 per cent of the vote nationally and him dropping out would help Trump marginally in swing states. While the effect of a Kennedy withdrawal would help Trump at the margins, “small margins have ended up deciding recent presidential elections”, as NBC reported. One Kennedy supporter, Glenn Whitehouse, wrote: “You need to endorse Trump. Get on board and stop this madness”.Trump may well have been an outsider candidate in 2016 but eight years later he essentially is the Republican party – making him a hard sell for Kennedy’s fans.
