The flowers will be used as part of a 'longer-lasting' memorial
Flowers left for the victims of the Nottingham attacks will be removed and used as part of a "longer-lasting" memorial, Nottingham City Council has confirmed. It is now more than two weeks on from the killings of two 19-year-old University of Nottingham students, Barnaby Webber and Grace O'Malley-Kumar, and 65-year-old school caretaker Ian Coates on June 13.
A huge amount of floral tributes have been left in their memory, with hundreds of bouquets placed at the Council House in Nottingham city centre along with other items. Nottingham City Council has now explained what will be done with the large amount of flowers placed in the city. The local authority said the tributes will be collected and stored, with them to be used as compost as part of a more permanent memorial to the victims. A Nottingham City Council spokesperson said: "We have arranged for flowers left at Ilkeston Road and Magdala Road, along with those on the Council House steps that are starting to perish, to be gathered and stored."We intend to eventually compost all the flowers and use this for a longer-lasting memorial.
