One to look out for🚂

The Flying Scotsman will visit Northamptonshire in 2023 as the train celebrates 100 years of service. It will be delighting trainspotters up and down the country from March this year.

The train has been touring the UK for years and has often been through Northamptonshire. Trainspotters will get the chance to see the famous locomotive when it stops in Northampton on June 10. It will set off from London Euston and call at Watford Jct, Milton Keynes, Northampton, Rugby, Nuneaton, and Crewe before heading to Chester. The service actually began in 1862 but the name was officially adopted in 1924.It can reach 125mph and in 1928, it was redesigned. A new type of corridor was installed which meant a new crew could take over service without the locomotive having to stop.

This reduced the journey time from London to Edinburgh by eight hours. The Flying Scotsman was originally painted apple green, but during World War ll it was repainted black. It was the same with all railway stock in order to comply with the blackout-blitz measures that were in place in an effort to foil Luftwaffe bombers.Flying Scotsman tour 2023 March 2023You can find out more information about the Flying Scotsman's 100th-anniversary celebrations here.
