Police found the 28-year-old environmental health officer dying in the back yard of her home
Police body-worn camera footage shows the moment the first officers arrived in the home of Ashley Dale and found it riddled with bullet holes.
Witham accepts opening fire with a Skorpion sub-machine gun and firing the bullet that killed Ashley, but will claim he did not see or hear her and was instead attempting to "send a message" to her boyfriend, 25-year-old Lee Harrison, who was not at home. He has pleaded guilty to manslaughter but denies murder.
The jury heard from PC Bratt, who described what he found in the back yard. He told the jury: "To the left side of the bin, that’s where Ashley Dale’s head was positioned. The head was positioned towards the garden wall.” PC Bratt said neither he nor PC Rowlands could find a pulse. He told the jury he “checked her back for any further injuries” and “discovered another puncture wound to her back as well”.
The jury has heard Witham fired 15 bullets in the house, 10 downstairs and five in an upstairs bedroom. The bullet that killed Ashley was determined to have struck her in the kitchen, as she turned to flee out of the back door, before lodging in a bar stool. The prosecution has claimed a fight or assault at Glastonbury festival in late June last year triggered animosity between Zeisz and Harrison's friend Jordan Thompson, which "reignited" the feud between Barry and Harrison.
