Football fans are being urged to attend donor recruitment drives this weekend in a bid to find a lifesaving stem cell match for 21-year-old Telford man Marshall, who is battling a rare form of cancer. The next drives for the Marshall's Match campaign will be held at the SEAH Stadium (New Bucks Head) in Wellington on Saturday (February 1) and at the Telford Shopping Centre on Sunday (February 2).
Marshall has been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer, and sadly, there is currently no suitable match on the stem cell register for him. Race Against Blood Cancer, the charity spearheading the campaign, is appealing for more people to join the register in the hope of finding a donor who could save Marshall's life.Since the appeal launched online, more than 400 people have signed up to the stem cell register, and several in-person donor drives have been held. Last Sunday (January 26), Marshall, along with volunteers, friends, and family, participated in the Walton Wobbles 5k in Stafford. The event raised over £3,000 for Race Against Blood Cancer, and a donor recruitment drive at the event successfully added 31 people to the stem cell register. Race Against Blood Cancer Community engagement manager Gemma Elsmore said: 'Marshall performed exceptionally well, completing the 5k just days after undergoing treatment. His energy and drive were inspiring.'
