Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler says summer signing Matt O’Riley will undergo surgery after picking up a 'bad injury' to his ankle just minutes into his debut in Tuesday's Carabao Cup second-round win over Crawley.Hurzeler has not given a timescale in terms of how long the midfielder will be out for.The German said of O'Riley: 'It's a bad injury. He needs surgery on his ankle. I can't say how long he will be out.
Hurzeler labelled the foul 'ridiculous' in his post-match press conference. The 31-year-old said: 'I think it was a really tough game. I was not happy with the performance. We can play better but you have to win tough, dirty games. It was a tough challenge.'Ridiculous foul. It has nothing to do with football. This situation, it changed the game as afterwards it was emotional. I hope it is not so bad. I think it is easy to apologise, in the end we can't fix the player.
