Summer is the ideal time to look after your flowers. But what about roses? Here's what you need to do right now.
The summer season is not just a time of long-awaited holidays for many people. Many of us take time off, but that doesn't necessarily mean we're heading to the other side of the world. They also take advantage of a well-deserved break to look after their homes, and in particular their gardens. Some get on with the work that has been put off for so long. And others devote themselves with care to the flowers that adorn their exteriors.
If you look after your roses every day, they'll thank you by staying in bloom throughout the season. What's more, the steps you need to take to help them maintain their magnificence will only take five minutes of your time. So there's no excuse for putting off this important task. Another advantage of this activity is its relaxing and soothing properties. These are benefits not to be overlooked during the back-to-school period, which is often synonymous with stress for many people.
‘By preventing faded flowers from unnecessarily sucking up this precious energy, you should easily be able to extend the flowering period of your roses into autumn,’ reveals Rhiannon Odey, a garden maintenance specialist. Then cut back all the weeds, not to be confused with the healthy dark green 5-headed leaflets. According to the expert's advice, it's best to tend to your plants in the morning before 10 o'clock. However, she advises against periods of heavy rainfall or heatwave.
