Major fashion brands like Gucci, Fendi and Max Mara have all released Lunar New Year collections and collaborations. But Red Flagged’s Ed Lee argues there’s a need for real support for the Asian community.
I was on my way back from a three-week trip to Asia when I was inundated with Lunar New Year campaigns on my Instagram feed. Gucci, Fendi, Max Mara – the list goes on. While fashion brands have always celebrated the major Asian holiday, this year it feels more materialistic than ever. As a British-born Chinese creative, I feel completely disconnected from many of the collabs and capsule collections being churned out by brands.
Given the lack of Asian talent at the top of fashion’s biggest brands , I would love for brands to hold themselves accountable on what Asian talent they are supporting.
