Collingwood suffered three more injuries in the win over West Coast, but have forced their way into the top eight and their form is improving by the week.

Already ravaged by injuries to forwards, Collingwood lost three more targets in their win over West Coast on Sunday, but coach Craig McRae said the Magpies would find ways to score through their effective system of play, irrespective of personnel.

Despite the injuries – West Coast also lost Jeremy McGovern to an internal injury – Collingwood had 10 different goalkickers and enjoyed a percentage-boosting win that lifted them into the eight for the first time this season. First-gamer Joe Richards, the second mature-age debutant for the Magpies in two weeks after Lachie Sullivan’s debut last week, had a very impressive first game. He was the highest ranked pressure player on the ground, kicked one goal and had three score assists.“Joey Richards looks like he’s more than capable to play at the level, which we thought he would based on his form, but you’ve still got to go and execute,” McRae said.

“That’s Jack’s best game by far. Everything that we want of Jack was there – high run, led the inside 50s, high pressure; second highest on the ground.
