Plans are in place to transform a vacant building on Deepdale Road, once part of Preston's bus depot, into a new medical centre. If approved, the facility will house a GP surgery, pharmacy, specialist services, and potentially two surgeries.
A building previously part of Preston 's bus depot is being considered as the foundation for a new medical center. Plans have been submitted to convert and expand the vacant unit on St. Paul’s Road in Deepdale into a facility that will host a GP surgery, pharmacy, and a variety of specialist services. If approved, the two-story premises – most recently occupied by Preston City Council’s Environment Directorate – would provide space for the relocation of Dr.
Rashid Ali’s practice, located on nearby Deepdale Road. This information comes from an application lodged with town hall planners by Preston-based St Paul’s Pharmamedics Limited, which indicates that the building could eventually accommodate two surgeries upon completion of the work. The company states that the chosen location – situated behind the operational portion of the bus depot – is ideal because it is “well located for existing patients to access… being within walking distance and with good public transport links”. The proposal includes demolishing single-story buildings at the rear and side of the site to create a 22-space car park. A side extension is also planned for the main building. A planning document reveals that the modernized unit will include podiatry, midwife, district nurse, and physiotherapy services, in addition to those provided by the GP, pharmacist, and healthcare assistant. It will feature two treatment rooms, three consulting rooms, a reception area, waiting area, and staff and meeting facilities. The application points out that Dr. Ali’s current patient list of 4,000 is growing at a rate of 20 percent annually. It further states that the proposed development has the capacity to accommodate an additional 3,000 patients. “By consolidating multiple medical practices and hospital services in one central location, the proposed development will enhance access to a range of health and care facilities for both local and wider communities,” the planning documents emphasize
