A former Waterbury city employee, John Egan, will appear in court to be sentenced for his alleged involvement in a hit-and-run. The incident occurred on May 26, 2023, leaving Bryan Calle, a 19-year-old, in critical condition and requiring months of life support at Connecticut Children’s Hospital in Hartford. Calle has since been undergoing physical therapy in Cheshire. Ahead of Tuesday’s sentencing hearing, Calle expressed a lack of resentment towards Egan.
Segundo Calle, Bryan’s father, while grateful for his son’s recovery, acknowledged the immense challenges their family has faced. They spent 11 months in the hospital with Bryan and continue to provide him with nearly constant care. The family has left the sentencing decision to the judge, stating that Bryan’s needs for 24/7 care for the rest of his life due to the unprecedented damages he suffered are paramount
