The longtime ally of the former president was found guilty nearly two years ago but has spent the time since appealing against his conviction. The 70-year-old is due to be released just before November's presidential election.
Former Donald Trump aide Steve Bannon was cheered by supporters as he turned up to prison to begin a four-month jail term on Monday. The longtime ally of the former president said he was 'proud' and had 'no regrets' as he formally surrendered to officials at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury, Connecticut. It comes almost two years since Bannon was found guilty of contempt of Congress.
He was also found guilty of a second count of refusing to provide documents related to his involvement in Mr Trump's efforts to overturn his 2020 election loss to rival Joe Biden.
