“He did not listen. He disputed the characterisation” 🔴 A former top civil servant who served under Dominic Raab at the Foreign Office has said warnings about his behaviour were repeatedly ignored
A former top civil servant who served underSimon McDonald, who spent five years as the top civil servant at the Foreign Office until his retirement in 2020, said he confronted Mr Raab over his behaviour on multiple occasions to try and “help him” realise that he was damaging his professional career.
The peer said he had raised issues of conduct with Mr Raab during that time but the minister had dismissed advice and warnings. “He did not listen. He disputed the characterisation,” he added. He strongly disputed Mr Raab’s claims about “activist civil servants” acting unreasonably, adding: “I saw no evidence of a small group of activists trying to undermine a minister. The issue is the minister’s behaviour.
