Sefton Councillor Sean Halsall quit the Labour Party last week in protest against policy direction and stance on the war in Gaza.
A former Sefton Labour councillor who quit the party last week has announced he is running as an independent candidate for the Southport parliamentary seat at the general election.
Today the Sefton ward councillor for Kew released a statement launching his campaign to become the next MP for Southport. As an independent candidate, Mr Halsall will take on incumbent Conservative MP Damien Moore, Labour's Patrick Hurley, Lib Dem Erin Harvey, Green candidate Edwin Black and Andrew Lynn of Reform UK.
"I was born in Southport and have lived here my whole life. I know and understand the problems the town faces and also know the solutions won't be found with the Conservatives or this version of the Labour Party. He said: " help local people in Southport develop worker owned cooperatives to reinvigorate the high streets and local economy. Keeping the wealth generated in the town here for longer keeping the local economy stable and resilient.
