Jamie Shackleton, a former Leeds United player, appeared in court facing charges of drink driving after being arrested in December 2022. Former Leeds United player Jamie Shackleton faced charges of drink driving in court. Shackleton, who departed Elland Road last summer following the team's near miss promotion, appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court accused of being in control of a motor vehicle while exceeding the legal alcohol limit.
The court revealed that Shackleton, now playing for Leeds United's Championship rivals Sheffield United, recorded a breathalyser reading of 73 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, more than double the legal limit of 35, after his arrest at Fairburn Ings nature reserve in Castleford on December 21. The 25-year-old midfielder refuted the allegation and a trial date was set for June 12 at the same court. Born in Leeds, Shackleton progressed through United's youth academy and made close to 100 appearances for the club before leaving upon the expiration of his contract. A statement released on the Whites' official website in July expressed: 'Having now decided to accept different terms elsewhere, everyone at the club would like to wish Jamie every success for his future and thank him for all the effort he put into representing Leeds United both on and off the pitch. He will always be welcome back at Elland Road.' Shackleton, capable of playing as a defender or midfielder, has struggled to secure a consistent starting position at Bramall Lane this season. He has featured 12 times for the Blades but only made two league starts. Injuries have also restricted Shackleton's first-team involvement
