Former Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely was granted parole on Thursday.
He had served as Limestone County Sheriff for 38 years.Blakely’s attorney, John Plunk, said several Limestone County residents went to Montgomery to support Blakely during the hearing.
“If Mike ran again, which he can’t because there’s a conviction, he could easily be re-elected Sheriff because he did such a fantastic job at putting that job in front of everything else,” Plunk said. “If you look up public servant in the dictionary, you’d see his picture.”“They felt like serving 40 percent of his sentence was long enough,” he said. “Mike has been out 6 days a week working in Muscle Shoals as a trailer salesman, and he hasn’t had a single mark against him by anyone.
