Joao Carlos Teixeira, who came through the Sporting Lisbon academy before playing under Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, has had his say on Ruben Amorim's prospects of replacing the German at Anfield
Ruben Amorim is ready for ‘a challenge like Liverpool’ believes former Reds midfielder Joao Carlos Teixeira.
Teixiera joined the Reds from the Sporting Lisbon academy in an £830k deal in January 2012, and made seven appearances under Klopp in the 2015/16 season before returning to Portugal at the end of his contract. “He’s already been a champion. They have had good results in the Champions League and Europa League. Sporting are playing well this year, but they were already playing well in previous years.
“But it is a difficult league for a coach to adapt to. You have to adapt to life, training and schedules. It's above all adapting to the game and the new reality, very different from what happens not only in Portugal, but in other countries.
