Daniel Warrender, a former Manchester City youth prospect, shares his harrowing story of struggle and redemption. He recounts his experiences with prison, stabbings, addiction, and eventual recovery, highlighting his gratitude for his coaching work with young players, including his son in the Man City academy.

Former Manchester City prospect Daniel Warrender fought back tears when discussing his time in prison and being stabbed twice.

Warrender found himself in non-league football for the next few years of his career, but his life off the pitch would have the biggest impact on him. Warrender - who admitted to struggles with alcohol and drugs - continued to spiral and was sentenced to 15 months in prison back in 2013 after punching a man in a nightclub. He was said to be a "decent, hard working man" according to the judge's notes but had consumed a "a skin-full" of booze before the bust-up in Stockport.

He said: "I've been at Manchester City, decent little prospect whatever. And then within two years I was in prison for various violent offences and drugs and drink, whatever, you name it, I've done it. I was stabbed on two different occasions and hospitalised a total of nine times. But that was normal life to me."
