Kyle Hutton is alleged to have been driving an orange Mitsubishi L200 pick-up vehicle when the incident took place off Farmeloan Road, close to the footballers home.
An ex-Rangers player has been arrested after a Glasgow woman died four days after a car crash in Rutherglen.
Police said enquiries remain ongoing as they issued a fresh appeal for witnesses who may be able to provide details of how the crash occurred. A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal. Hutton had originally been expected to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court on Monday this week, reports the Daily Record.
He started against Manchester United that season, and remained at Ibrox around when Rangers dropped down the divisions. He made 72 appearances before he was released in 2015 and has since played for St Mirren, Dumbarton, East Kilbride, Queen of the South and Cowdenbeath.
