Former Rutgers coach Mike Rice on his new job at Linden: 'The priority is winning'

With the Tigers having graduated a senior-laden group, Rice said he’s not sure how his team will look next season but pointed out that the JV squad won the Union County championship.He also said he plans to keep former Linden star Desmond Wade -- whom Rice called “one of the best players in the history of Linden” -- and JV coach Mike Campo on staff, and will add two more.
“Certainly, it wasn’t perfect in the past and it won’t be perfect in the future but I’ve learned a great deal and have tremendous passion and energy and look forward of working with these student-athletes and the Linden community.” “He’s very intense, I was very intense. Driven players don’t have any trouble when coaches are intense and push them, but every once in a while you get kids that just don’t want to be pushed and that becomes a problem.”
“I think it was the right time and the right place. This is a community that is basketball crazy and they show up to the games, they cheer, they’re passionate. So I think it’s a good fit for the type of program and the type of community that I want to be associated with.”
