Paul Eckloff is a former secret service agent for past presidents Bush, Obama and Trump. He says he has questions after Saturday’s assassination attempt on form
Armstrong Williams takes on the news of the week and asks the questions you want answered. Don't miss our weekly town hall. Paul Eckloff is a former Secret Service agent for past presidents like Bush, Obama and even Trump. He says he has questions after Saturday’s assassination attempt on former President Trump, but says it’s too early to determine what exactly went wrong, and applauds the agents that jumped into action.
“In this case, counter snipers had an over watch of what was identified as a vulnerability. How that vulnerability was accessed needs to be answered. What cannot be questioned is that individual's decision in a mere second choice to fire his weapon in a public space and put down a threat to the former President and political candidate,” explained Eckloff.
He adds the environment will determine what security is like and as someone gets further from when they served in office normally the security reduces. “They identify the risks and mitigate it. They build the sight from the inside out and there's other units that protect it from the outside in," said Eckloff.
A counter surveillance unit is on site to monitor areas that can't be locked down, but for events like the Republican National Convention happening this week, there are more resources available compared to a campaign rally to prevent a similar tragic event we saw on Saturday. The Secret Service says it will take part in an independent investigation into what happened, and President Biden says former President Trump now has the same Secret Service detail he does.
