William “Bill” Hutchison Sr., a former Dallas-based oil executive and SMU trustee, died Monday in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was 92.

Hutchison was also heavily involved in his church, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and elder for about 20 years and almost never missed a service, according to his children. In New Mexico, he was one of the founders of Rociada Baptist Church in Rociada and Christ Church in Santa Fe, according to his obituary.His children remember their father as a strong, yet loving family man who was firm in his beliefs, or as they call them, “convictions.
Hutchison managed a close, personal relationship with every member of his family despite the distance between Santa Fe and Dallas, Gordon said. Growing up, Gordon said her dad was at every single sporting event of hers and her brothers, and was at every piano recital of her older sister, Gail. In his later years, Hutchison often traveled back to Texas to attend his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s games.
