Callum Davidson expresses his sadness over St Johnstone's poor performance and the sacking of Steven MacLean. He believes the club needs continuity to improve.

Callum Davidson reckons it's a business of points for St Johnstone and that is why Steven MacLean lost his job.

The former Perth Saints boss, who guided the McDiarmid Park outfit to a stunning Scottish and League Cup double just two years ago, is sad to see the state of his former team rooted to the bottom of the Scottish Premiership and winless from their opening nine league games.

In the end Saints chiefs made the call to relieve MacLean of his duties, with fans and pundits alike already linking Davidson with what would be a sensational return. He was let go by the club in April this year, and revealed he is 'gutted' for his former coaching staff and ex-player but says the club need continuity to stay afloat.View gallery He told BBC Sportscene: "First and foremost, I know them both really well and gutted for both of them.

"Unfortunately, we're in the business of points and ultimately they don't have enough on the board. It's cost them their jobs...No team has the right to have that success. Other teams win major trophies and within a year or so they can be relegated. It's hard for a 'so-called' smaller team when you have success to hold on to players and have to continuity. I'm gutted that they're in the position they are, I don't like to see it.
