Shropshire Council has converted a former student accommodation building in Shrewsbury into temporary housing for homeless people. The Tannery building will house 60 residents who were previously living in costly B&B accommodations. Residents benefit from onsite support workers, access to employment specialists, and the ability to cook their own meals. The council aims to provide high-quality temporary accommodation and support while saving money and making the best use of a council asset.

The first tenants have moved into former student accommodation in Shrewsbury which is now being used to house homeless people.said the development marks a"significant step" in its commitment to providing better housing solutions for homeless people in the county.

The move is part of a phased programme aimed at relocating 60 residents from B&B accommodations in the next few weeks. Tenants have been provided the ability to prepare and cook their own food in order to give them a"sense of independence and wellbeing". The Tannery building on Barker Street, Shrewsbury. The former student accommodation block has been converted into temporary accommodation for homeless people

"We will continue to work with the local community and partners to address any queries they may have about the Tannery and other temporary accommodation projects."
