A former assistant headteacher in England admitted to several charges of unprofessional and inappropriate conduct towards colleagues, including unwanted touching. While acknowledging her actions, her representative argued that the behavior was not motivated by sexual gratification but rather as jokes or attempts to lighten the mood. The Teacher Regulation Agency, however, maintains that her actions constituted unacceptable professional conduct and brought the teaching profession into disrepute.

A former assistant headteacher at a Sefton school alleged to have subjected colleagues to “unconsented touching” did not do so for sexual gratification, the closing of a misconduct hearing was told. Advocates have made final statements in the case against Nicola Houghton - previously of Rowan Park school in Litherland - brought by the Teacher Regulation Agency after three and a half days of evidence.

” Mr Storey said Miss Houghton, who gave evidence last week, accepted on several occasions she had behaved in ways that had been unprofessional and inappropriate towards other colleagues and that she was “mortified, horrified and ashamed” that she had put staff members in this position. He said the hearings and the testimony heard had “shone a light on a period where she was struggling as a new leader in a challenging environment.
