Four-year-old Ivy was one of three people killed in a shooting at a car wash on West Cleburne Road in Fort Worth in the late hours of July 4. Her younger sister, Wynter Thouston, 1, was also killed in the shooting along with 42-year-old Terrell Winn, according to reporting from our sister station in Dallas, WFAA.
Through her tears, the girls' mother told WFAA that she tried to perform CPR on her wounded daughters.According to documents, the family was in the car, going to leave a fireworks celebration when the gunfire began. Police say Kanard Trent Murphy, 26, was in a fight with another show attendee and he sat down his own infant and picked up a rifle from his car. The warrant states Murphy chased the target through the car wash, shooting.
Records state Murphy injured five people, including the three who were killed, and all of them were bystanders who had nothing to do with the fight. A family member said the family moved from Tyler to Fort Worth about one month ago, according to WFAA. Murphy has been charged with capital murder of multiple persons, according to police.
The girls' cousin Briana Mills said Ivy loved swimming and playing on an iPad, adding that she was"a light in everyone's life." Wynter was growing into her personality and she stayed"attached to her momma's leg," the family said. "Our family is asking for support from friends and family to lighten the financial burden while going through this extremely tough time.
