Jimmy Carter, the 39th US president, has died at the age of 100. He served one term from 1977 to 1981, following the Watergate scandal and the Vietnam War. His son, Chip Carter, said: “My father was a hero, not only to me but to everyone who believes in peace, human rights and unselfish love.“The world is our family because of the way he brought people together, and we thank you for honouring his memory by continuing to live these shared beliefs.” She said: "Throughout his life Jimmy Carter was an advocate for human rights, peace, humanitarianism and doing what’s right, no matter how difficult. Alongside his late wife Rosalynn, his legacy stretches far beyond his term as President and his achievements through the Carter Centre and with Habitat for Humanity are arguably just as meaningful as anything he achieved while in office.
