The Supreme Court of Victoria has heard Paul Cohrs, 64, murdered his mother in north-west Victoria hours after fatally shooting his brother over family business disputes.
Paul Cohrs , a one-time local councillor, killed his elderly mother and brother in 2018. Paul Cohrs has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the murder of his mother Bette Cohrs-Schulz .
Her four-year-old great-grandson had been shopping with her earlier that day and was in the bathroom at the time of the murder, and was left alone to find her body. The court heard Cohrs handcuffed the real estate agent in a shearing shed just after Raymond's murder, before Cohrs drove to Red Cliffs to kill his mother and then returned to release his hostage. He then called family members and police to confess the murders.
The court heard people began to notice oddities in Cohrs's behaviour the same time he was serving as the Wentworth Shire Council's deputy mayor — a role he took on in 2012.
