Ex-Yankees' top prospect lands with AL East team

On Tuesday, the Blue Jays signed former Yankees top prospect James Kaprielian to a minor league deal. He was assigned to Triple-A Buffalo,, the right-hander was the centerpiece of the deal with the Athletics that sent Sonny Gray to the Yankees in 2017. At the time, Kaprielian, who was the Yankees’ No. 6 prospect, was recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Toronto is hoping to unlock something in the 30-year-old who once was hailed as the Yankees’ top pitching prospect, the player who in 33 minor leagues , had a 3.34 ERA with 136 strikeouts over 124 innings. For what it’s worth, Gray didn’t pan out for the Yankees either. Acquired for the playoff push, Gray was 0-1 and allowed five runs in two postseason starts in 2017.
