Major League Baseball has commissioned a mural in Fort Worth in advance of the All-Star Game coming next month to Arlington.
The mural by Juan Velázquez will be unveiled in Fort Worth a few days before MLB All-Star Week in Arlington in mid-July.
Over the next few weeks, Velázquez will continue work on a mural in Fort Worth on behalf of Major League Baseball and the Rangers. The mural will commemorate the contributions of Latino and Latina ballplayers ahead of this year’s All-Star Game on“I always told myself, ‘One day I’m going to work with the Texas Rangers.’ That’s kind of like dreaming big, which is the point of the mural in itself,” Velázquez said.
“We have a lot of fans out here for us to tell the story of All-Star Week and the Texas Rangers and celebrate our community. This just seemed like the perfect location, considering the fact that every day they are teaching young people how to be artists,” Casas said. Velázquez has created more than 150 murals throughout the region. Many of the murals have centered on local and Central Texas community figures, including Texas native Willie Nelson in a Hillsboro display.
