Although the new Fortnite season is doing very well, it’s nostalgia based success risks being detrimental to the game’s future.

Fortnite – is this the start of an upward trend or a flash in the pan success that’ll fizzle out once the season’s over? Just a month ago, it seemed like Fortnite’s overwhelming popularity had begun to dwindle. Or at the very least that it was no longer making the kind of money Epic Games wanted it to.

Assuming this was a long-term plan, that means Fortnite’s profits were not only dwindling a long time ago, but that Epic Games feared they wouldn’t get better and had no confidence that any new original ideas would work. There’s been an air of cynicism surrounding Fortnite for years now, thanks to the copious amount of crossover characters it features.
