The SNP accused UK ministers of 'sitting on their hands' as Shell prepares to reveal colossal windfall of £4.3billion
Fossil fuel giants have been accused of raking in massive profits off the backs of the poor as Scots continue to wrestle with “sky-high” energy bills.
Yesterday, Norwegian energy titan Equinor - in charge of the controversial Rosebank oil field planned off Shetland - posted colossal second-quarter profits of £5.8billion before tax. SNP energy spokesman Alan Brown: “The UK Government is sitting on its hands and allowing energy companies to rake in record profits at the very same time that households are paying historically high prices on their energy bills.”
At Rosebank, they claimed 91 per cent of the cost of developing the 500million barrel North Sea oil field will be covered by the taxpayer. "They are effectively denying the reality of the climate crisis. The world is burning and the UK Government is helping the arsonists pay for the fuel."
