The council confirmed it was looking at several ways to recruit and retain staff
The concept of a four-day working week has been branded "ridiculous" by some of Nottinghamshire's MPs after one local council said it was discussing the idea. The leadership of the Labour-led Bassetlaw District Council has been having policy discussions more broadly on how to recruit and retain staff.
The trials in other parts of the country mentioned by Mr Clarke-Smith include at South Cambridgeshire District Council, which began a four-day working week trial in January for 450 desk-based staff. Initially running for three months, the authority later said it was extending this until the end of March 2024, but was quickly ordered by the Government to halt the trial "immediately."
The findings of the trial were that 92% of the companies were continuing with a four-day week, with benefits including revenue remaining broadly the same and the number of staff leaving dropping by 57%. But the TaxPayers' Alliance claims £30 billion worth of working time would be lost if the four-day week was implemented in full across the public sector.
