Glasgow Botanic Gardens, Linn Park Wildlife Trail, Southern Necropolis and Overnewton Park have all been awarded a Green Flag Award
Four parks in Glasgow have been named among the most beautiful in Scotland and awarded with a Green Flag Award.
Colin Mackie, Chairperson for Friends of Southern Necropolis, said: “This is recognition of all the hard work and dedication from our team of volunteers. The cemetery has become a much valued and important asset to the local community and visitors alike, and there are so many ways in which people can benefit from being within this unique and special ‘window on time’ to the history and heritage of the Gorbals and Glasgow.
“The Green Flag Awards provide national recognition of all the hard work that goes into nurturing the city’s flora and fauna and making greenspaces like the Botanics safe, welcoming and productive places not only for people, but for nature and wildlife too. Staff at the Botanics work with conservation experts around the world to protect and cultivate rare and endangered plants which is globally important work to safeguard species facing extinction.
A total of 87 green spaces in Scotland have won a Green Flag Award for 2023. Across the UK there were 2,216 winners, a record number and up eight from 2022’s total of 2,208.
