The cash is being dished out the councils 'most in need'
Four Nottinghamshire councils will receive a share of nearly £300,000 from the Labour government to help combat homelessness and rough sleeping this winter. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner announced the additional money for local authorities on Wednesday, November 6, as part of a nationwide £10m emergency funding scheme.
In Nottinghamshire, they are Ashfield District Council, Bassetlaw District Council, Mansfield District Council and Nottingham City Council. Ashfield will receive £27,893, Bassetlaw will receive £29,074 and Mansfield will receive £70,322, while the city council will get more than all those put together - £172,642.
“I am proud to be part of a government that is taking action to help rough sleepers be warm and safe this winter, and pleased to see councils in Nottinghamshire, especially Mansfield, receiving a share of this important fund.” Angela Rayner said: “Anyone forced to sleep rough on our streets represents a complete failure of the broken system we've inherited. It's a national disgrace, and we can’t keep sticking plasters on it.
