Sky News Meteorologist Rob Sharpe has warned 'we could have three tropical cyclones active at the same time' - and even a fourth forming - after a quiet season so far.

From Thursday, the south-east and central region’s wet weather system will then travel to the North as Cyclone Freddy moves down Queensland's coastline.

The cyclone would force large and dangerous swells across the east coast, particularly on Friday, which would be good news for south-east Queensland surfers, Mr Sharpe said. Cyclone Gabrielle will begin to strengthen off the coast of Western Australia on Wednesday while Cyclone Herman develops further out to sea.
