Have you ever wondered how much detectives work on cold cases? Have you ever wondered how many cases are open right now, or how much time is devoted to each one?
FOX10 News sat down with Sgt. J.T. Thornton with the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office to get some answers. Sgt. Thornton says MCSO does not have a cold case unit, but they do have a handful of investigators who work on the cases intermittently.Ada Fritz was considered a ‘Jane Doe’ when her body was found in South Mobile County in 1976. In 2021, investigators took a harder look at the case alongside cold case consultant Olivia McCarter.
“It just seems like to us- as a family member of a missing sister. It just seems like it’s going so slow- like nothing is ever being done. But I know they’re busy and they have other cases besides our sister- I will say that Thornton and Mr. Detective Niles, the new one on the case- they’re good about answering the phones when I call them,” she said.
Sgt. Thornton says while ever-evolving technology helps in cracking cases, investigators are still heavily reliant upon the community to come forward with any information.
