Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose hired former Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof as his chief legal counsel and deputy assistant secretary of state.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced Tuesday that he had hired Obhof as his chief legal counsel and deputy assistant secretary of state. Obhof served in the Ohio Senate from 2011 to 2020, rising to the chamber’s top post in 2017. He left the chamber at the end of 2020 because of term limits.

Since leaving the legislature, Obhof has practiced private practice law. He is an Ohio State University graduate and holds a law degree from Yale Law School. He worked in private practice and as an adjunct law professor at Case Western Reserve University’s law school before joining the legislature. “We’re incredibly fortunate to have someone of Larry’s caliber take on this critical role in what’s becoming one of the most historic presidential elections in our nation’s history,” LaRose said in a prepared statement. “Larry is both an experienced litigator and an accomplished legislator with a well-deserved reputation that transcends partisan politics.
