Frank Warren, promoter of Daniel Dubois, believes Oleksandr Usyk will remain in the heavyweight division despite recent suggestions of a move back to cruiserweight. He highlights Usyk's size and points to his recent performances as evidence that a return to cruiserweight is improbable. Warren anticipates Usyk's next fight against the winner of Dubois' upcoming IBF title bout with Joseph Parker.
Oleksandr Usyk won't be moving back down to cruiserweight, according to Frank Warren , the promoter of Daniel Dubois . Usyk, the former undisputed cruiserweight champion, achieved the same feat at heavyweight by defeating Tyson Fury last May and solidifying his undefeated record with a rematch victory last month. While the Ukrainian has hinted at a potential return to cruiserweight, Warren remains unconvinced.\'He won't. See the size of him, it's impossible,' Warren told Sky Sports.
Usyk hasn't competed at cruiserweight since 2018 and has comfortably established himself in the heavyweight division. In his last five fights, his weight has consistently exceeded 220lbs. 'You've only got to look at the size of him, that's not going to happen,' Warren stated, anticipating Usyk's next fight against the winner of Dubois' February 22 IBF title bout with Joseph Parker. He believes the most lucrative fight for Usyk lies in facing the victor of this matchup, describing it as 'a big fight, a massive fight.'\Warren is confident in Dubois' ability to overcome Parker, acknowledging the New Zealander's experience and current form. 'I'll be confident after the fight. I believe in him that's why we made the fight but anything can happen with these big guys. They're big lumps. They throw bombs, the pair of them,' he said. While acknowledging Parker's resilience and fighting spirit, Warren believes Dubois possesses the necessary skills and mental fortitude to secure victory. In their previous encounter in 2023, Dubois was stopped in nine rounds by Usyk, but Warren maintains that Dubois would have emerged victorious had it not been for a controversial low blow during the fight. 'I genuinely still believe he would have beaten Usyk if it weren't for what was going on in his head at the time with the referee,' he asserted. 'All that four-minute break. He would have jumped on him.' Despite the setback, Warren sees Dubois' impressive performance against Anthony Joshua in September, where he secured a five-round knockout victory, as a testament to his growth and maturity. '90 per cent of it is mental,' he explained. 'It's took time. He's had a couple of hiccups on the way but you look at the fights he's had and what he's done - he's learned.' He believes Dubois' mental maturity, coupled with his skills and guidance from trainer Don Charles, marks this as his time to shine. Warren envisions Dubois as the undisputed heavyweight champion by the end of the year, stating, 'If he comes through this, and fights Usyk... I do think ...
