Connor O'Neill reports from the Exhibition Centre after Frankie Stringer beat Tatenda Mangombe

Frankie Stringer revealed he was struck down by illness just hours before he took to the ring to face Tatenda Mangombe. Stringer maintained his unbeaten run in the professional ranks with a points victory over the 28-year-old at the Exhibition Centre on Saturday night. Trained by Joe McNally and managed by Liam Smith , Stringer won every round of the six-round contest and dropped Mangombe during the final round.

He said: “I am frustrated I didn’t get the stoppage and I was trying a bit too hard, but do you know what? I woke up this morning sick as a dog. “My nose, ears and throat, I thought I am f****d here, and even when I got out there, I felt a bit groggy still, so I am happy with my performance, but he was tough and decent. “I needed to go the body more, and when I did go to the body, I put him down. I tried too hard looking for it , but he was tough.
