People are more likely to fall prey to fraudsters than any other type of criminal

but the police response is ineffective, it is claimed. One force even wrote off 96 per cent of scam cases to"reduce demand" despite known suspects, says the review. Fraud costs the UK economy a staggering £190billion a year and makes up a third of all crime in this country. Despite this, there is no national strategy to tackle it.
